Last Week Before Exams

This week is the last week before mid-term exams.  I know it's easy to get distracted with the holidays around the corner, the undefeated basketball team, and the fact that most or all of your college applications are done.  To combat this, I've put together a pretty busy week of tasks that will help our business and keep you working hard.  Please see below for our tasks:

Monday: VE Yearbook Picture
In addition to announcing it in class, I've also sent you an email to remind you of our yearbook picture on Monday.  I have not yet received confirmation on time, but I imagine someone from the yearbook staff will come in toward the beginning of class for the photo.  Dress to impress.

Weekly Tasks
After our yearbook picture is snapped, we have a lot of work to get through between Monday and Thursday.  Tasks are broken down by department/team:

All Employees and Executives:

  • Make two purchases in the VE marketplace
    • Document your purchase
    • Send thank you email to firm and invite them to return the favor by checking out our website
      • Use email example I shared with you from R Hitch
      • BCC me on the email so I know you completed these purchases
      • Each purchase = 10 points toward this week's grade

Accounting/Finance:

  • Send remaining thank-you emails/receipts to take care of Trade Show sales
    • Please refer to template B. Wallace created
  • Update Inventory records once all merchandise has been delivered
    • Purchase new inventory as needed - we'll need at least 3 of everything in stock after all deliveries have been made
  • Use consolidated sales spreadsheets to complete request for funds from Central Bank
    • CEO and CFO to complete on Portal
  • Payroll
    • Pay all employees based on attendance

HR & Admin:
  • Complete Weekly Newsletter (to be read on Friday).  Articles to include:
    • Item of the week flyer from Sales
    • Article about Holiday Over-Eating
    • Article about Disposable vs. Discretionary Income
      • Investopedia is a great resource for financial information
      • All employees should know about this already, but it's good prep for the real world
    • Employee Spotlight
      • Select an employee and conduct a real sit-down interview
      • Please do not just hand the employee a piece of paper or email and ask him/her to fill in the answers
Sales:
  • Complete the Weekly flyer in Word or Publisher
  • Work with finance and IT to update Wholesale Marketplace Bundles
  • Think of some creative ideas for a commercial
    • I have some great equipment and we have software for editing video, so we should make a commercial when we return from break
    • We will work on some ideas during class and have a script in place when we return from break
IT/Web Design:
  • Update website with all merchandise
  • Highlight "Item of the Week"
  • Please get the Store Manager up and running by the end of the semester
Display Board:
  • Please use the remaining three sections of the board to highlight each holiday celebrated in the US:
    • Christmas
    • Hanukkah
    • Kwanzaa
Event Planning:
  • Coordinate company holiday event (Tuesday, 12/15)
    • Sign-up sheet?
    • Email correspondence confirming responsibilities?
All work should be complete by Thursday.  On Friday, we will read the company newsletter and blog about the following:
  • What were your responsibilities this week?  Did you meet your deadline?
  • How well did you carry out your tasks?  Was your supervisor satisfied?
  • What were two things you read (or wrote) in the company newsletter that you learned/enjoyed?
That's it for this week.  Remain focused, stay on task, and we'll have a great week.
