This year, I have implemented Blogger into my VE curriculum
to allow my students to reflect upon tasks assigned and completed, and through
the first few months, they have done a decent job of keeping up with their
entries. Because I have to prepare
weekly lesson plans with tasks for each department, I figured that I too would
maintain a Blogger to keep an online record of what we’ve done. Hopefully this first installment will be a
starting point for me, and future installments will continuously improve.
Week of 12/9-12/13
Below is a copy of the outline/list of tasks for my class
this week. Considering we only have 45
minutes of class Monday through Friday, I try to make the list of tasks
manageable yet challenging. Throughout
the week I check progress on each task and re-evaluate as needed. Here’s a list of our tasks this week:
Monday: Log into your Google account and check out the
Blogger post I have shared with you. VP
of each department should assign tasks and ensure each project is on schedule
to be completed by Friday.
Admin/IT:
·
Design Company Logo and add it to all Good
News/Bad News letters we created last week.
This should be done by end of class Monday. Share with HR and encourage HR to add it to
performance evaluations and company manual.
·
Create catalog for all our merchandise. We began the project last quarter. Let’s finish it.
Accounting/Finance + CFO:
·
Transactions for sale to Elysium (Sales and A/R,
are affected, so which journal do we use?)
·
Update cash receipts from Elysium for September,
October, and November. Keep A/R –
Elysium Ledger updated.
·
Complete backlogged transactions for prior
distribution of payroll (We made a cash payment, which journal is used?)
·
Purchase at least enough inventory to cover
sales to Elysium.
·
Purchase additional inventory of iPads (2-5 of
them) since it’s our item of the week.
·
Distribute payroll
Sales:
·
Create email to me for our item of the
week.
·
Attach 1 of the flyers created.
·
Get with IT to determine next week’s item of the
week and work on flyers, emails, and create a system to check on how many of
each item of the week we sell.
·
Make 3 cold calls this week, highlighting our
item of the week.
HR + CEO:
Finish performance evaluation (perhaps add company
letterhead/logo to top?), employee manual (use old model and improve upon it),
and newsletter.
Each member must work on 2 stories for the newsletter
(minimum 175 words). Topics for stories
include:
·
Employee spotlight (ask about how the student
enjoys the class, what has been learned so far, extracurricular he/she enjoys,
future aspirations)
·
NWHS Sports update: Boys/Girls basketball,
wrestling, Cheer/Dance/Step Team
·
A “real world” business story (minimum wage
rising, retail sales during holiday season, anything from www.wsj.com or www.nytimes.com
will do): provide your opinion on what has been read, not a summary of the
article
Hopefully this week
we can knock out all the assigned tasks.
It’s a large list, so I have my fingers crossed that we can get it done.
